Compassion DTS

Do you have a heart that yearns to show God's compassion to the poor and needy, and to bring His hope into a hurting world? If your answer is "Yes!" then come join us.  Compassion DTS is for YOU!

Compassion DTS aims to address issues of poverty and injustice in a world gone wrong.  We believe God has called us to champion the cause of those in need.  We desire strongly to be a voice of the voiceless.  If you have a courageous heart, and a burning desire to see God's love spread abroad.... come join us!  But beware: this DTS is definitely not for the fainthearted!

This YWAM-DTS is a journey to discover God's heart for you and the world around you. It will give you deeper understanding of the ways of God and amazing opportunities to show His love and compassion. It is purposed to move you to acts of kindness and love to children at risk, the poor and the oppressed.

Our theme verse is from MiUofN Kona campus - Compassion DTScah 6:8 "He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." This DTS promises to be a place of going deeper with God and an opportunity for you to make a difference for eternity.

Please Note: This Compassion DTS is geared for the younger generation (those 18-30 years old) who really want to be nation changers for God and His Kingdom.

The field assignment

The outreach will focus on reaching the poor and needy, and children at risk, and will take you to places in Cambodia, Rwanda and possibly other countries. We reach out to those living in absolute poverty, the homeless, those struggling with life addictions, women and children at risk, and those have been sexually abused, trafficked or enslaved. Our hope is that out of our prayers and service new ministries will be birthed," says Pieter. Although the DTS outreach requirement is twelve weeks, there will be long-term opportunities to pioneer teams and ministries. "Our desire is for each student to live a life of faith, to find their destiny in Christ and to make a difference in their world."

Heres familyMeet the school leaders

Pieter and Dawn Heres help lead the YWAM Children at Risk Network and are particularly interested in serving the nations of Southeast Asia. Pieter (Dutch) and Dawn (American) first met at the University of the Nations in Kona and have been married for 23 years. Their sons, John-Paul (20) and Jordan (17), have traveled with them to Bosnia, Cambodia, Vietnam and Japan in their service to the world's hurting kids. You can find out more about them and their ministry by visiting their website (www.heresfamily.com).

The Challenge

We are seeing an amazing generation of young people full of a desire for justice and deep compassion for the least and the lost.  They are world-changers marked by a deep commitment to Jesus, creativity, and leadership.  The potential for true transformation is huge!  That's why we want to challenge you to an initial commitment of one or two years in missions.  There are many possibilities after DTS for further training and to join teams of young pioneers in the nations.

CompassionHere are a few suggested options for right after the Compassion DTS:

Children at Risk School in Bogota, Colombia, starting March 2011. Includes four months of lecture plus ministry to street kids and orphans.

School of Biblical Studies, Kona or Taiwan starting April 2011 for nine months with outreach following; training and teaching God's Word to pastors and church leaders in other nations.

Join a missions team in the nations following DTS for the next year.

Compassion DTS only has room for a limited number of students, but we want to include anyone who really desires to make a difference for Jesus in the world. This could be the door of opportunity to change your future, so don't be afraid to step out!

Course dates and fees

This school will run for 24 weeks, starting on September 30, 2010, and ending in March 2011. Fees for the 12-week lecture phase of the school are approximately $4,300 (room, board and tuition).
